recently i encountered an issue when adding a new host to an existing cluster in sddc manager. the «prepare transport node collection» task was stuck at 84 % for a while until it failed with the following error message:
after searching through the logs, i found out that there was some trouble in communication between sddc manager and the nsx controller(s). the controller is not able to install the nsx agents on the esxi host and it shows a validation error in nsx:
as a workaround for this issue i configured the esxi host in nsx manually.
first click on the three dots to the left of the host and select «configure nsx». as you can see from the picture below there is no available host switch, so we need to add this.
choose the approptiate settings for the host and click «add» and then «finish»
the esxi host status changed to «success»
the next step was to go back to sddc manager and restart the failed task and wait for the host to be added to the cluster:
